Calling all coffee drinkers

Thanks to BM - The Blawg for reminding me that I need to ask for some advice from all my blogging buddies about an important purchase I'm about to make.

My poor old Mr. Coffee pot is dying a slow death. First, my house doesn't smell like coffee anymore in the morning when it's brewing, the hot plate paint has peeled off in three different places and most importantly, it doesn't match my kitchen. ;-)

I was hoping all you die-hard coffee drinkers can help me select my new coffee maker. I make coffee almost every morning and I grind my own beans of Serena Organic Blend by Starbucks. So to help with the decision, here are a few things I would like for my new toy to have:

1. 12 - cup (at least)
2. Use round coffee filters (I get twitches from the cone shaped kind)
3. Programmable (so it's brewing when I wake up at 5:45am with my 4-year old)
4. Preferably in black or stainless steel
5. Easy to clean

And for pete's sake...I want to smell it brewing in the morning like my old one used to!

So am I a "coffee snob" yet? Well join the crowd, and tell me what you recommend in my comments section.

Oh, and as far as price goes, I'm totally open. I just want a good cup of joe!

Thanks y'all!

I have a Mr. Coffee pot also, so no suggestions. Mine is still working beautifully. Did you not like the one you had, maybe get the same model (just newer). Also programable IS A MUST.

I love my Brewmaster (No pot to clean!), and while it's not programmable I am pretty sure they make one that is.

Special note though: My husband says the coffee doesn't get hot enough from it. I think it's definately hot enough. So if you like really HOT (as in "I got burned when I picked up my coffee at McDonalds and am now a millionaire") you'd probably want something else.

Oh, I can't help you. Because I love my Cuisinart and it uses cone filters which make you all nervous and twitchy. :-)

Ok here's the thing, I think everyone and their mother knows that I LOVE coffee. BUT I'm not one to go out and buy a super expensive coffee maker. I just have a Hamilton Beach Coffee Maker that is also programmable and makes 12 cups and allows the wonderful aroma of coffee to permeate the whole house LOL

But there's a downside, well for you at least....it DOES use cone shaped filters LOL

I can't help you otherwise, see I don't care what shape the filters are in as long as they give me that beautiful hot coffee LOL

Have a wonderful day Theresa,
Sandra

You gotta make friends with the cone! Did you know you can buy paper filters for them - you don't have to use the messy mesh thing? At least that's how it is with my Cuisinart, which I'm absolutely thrilled with - to the extent that I make my own coffee every morning and take it with me in an insulated cup to work. Really, I think you can handle the cone filters - you get to fold up the seam at the bottom and sides all nice and precise for that OCD side in us :)

Oh, I have just what you're looking for... I love my Hamilton Beach BrewStation. It's black, 12-cup, they do make a programmable version, found @ Target or Costco, and best of all, there's NO carafe or hotplate!!!

LOOOVE it!

Sorry, I don't know how to do links, but here's the page on the Target website ($49):

~Programable
~Round filters
~You can smell the coffee : )
~Very easy clean up!
~No heating plate on bottom!

You'll have to let us know what you end up getting!!

We had a cuisinart, paid about $150 for it and I was not happy with it. The coffee was fine but the letters telling me which button was for what came off with the steaming, so I had to get out the book all the time to set it. We just got the Gevalia - love it, love the coffee, but alas it has coneshaped filters, an apparently big no-no. So it was about $20 and the coffee is expensive, but good.

I too, agree with the Hamilton Beach Brew Station. Stacey got one for her dad a couple of years ago and we love it! Mmmmmmm...I love the smell of coffee and with the right creamer...Mmmmmm good! Of course I have to add the calories with the creamer! Bad girl!

I can't help you with the coffee since I'm not a coffee drinker nor do I make it. However I just visited your site from the Family -Friendly Blogroll. Your site looks very nice. I like the colors and your name. It feels very attractive. I have bookmarked your site and will visit again. You are welcome to visit my site, but it's not as pretty as your.

Good luck on choosing the best coffee maker for you!

Okay, this truly is the best coffee maker in the world: Capresso CoffeeTeam. It's pricey, and we received it as a gift about 12 years ago. It has broken or worn out twice, and once it was replaced free, and the other time I got a new one for a $25 fee. Not bad for a $200 coffee maker. Yikes--$200?? Yes, but it grinds the beans, using a burr grinder, which is what they use at Starbucks and it produces the proper grind without releasing the flavor. Um, okay, it has the cone filters, but they just fit right in and truly it's not a problem. Actually, I use the paper ones now, but it comes with one of those gold tone filters.

It is kind of loud when it grinds, so if that annoys you (and would wake you up before you want to wake up), avoid it. But seriously, anyone who has ever had my coffee loves it. . . .

I just got a new Mr. Coffee for my birthday. Yes, I know, very practical. It has everything you mentioned and it has this bright analog clock on the front. Love it. 2 hr auto shut-off as well. There is hope!

Hey -- no tips on coffee makers, but I just wanted you to know I'm praying for you -- I've been off line all week, but I'm still thinking of you!

Praise God for good news about the mass!!!

Okay, so have you gotten a new one yet?? We're all dying to hear what you purchased!!

I needed to come across this post. We have been through 2 coffee makers that just didn't make good coffee, even when we bough expensive coffee and ground it ourselves--it just didn't come out right....and we are going to break down and buy another one to try again. I have never had a programable one, but you make it sound like a definate must. So....which one have you picked??

Pam said...

Haven't seen your answer to what you picked, but I just got a KitchenAid, the only requirement it doesn't fill is it's only 10 cups. It has the round filters, easily pre-programmable and comes in red (my fave), stainless, black and white. I love it. Smell that coffee in the mornin'!! Mmmm....

You can't go wrong with a Starbucks coffee machine. We love ours. No filters, stainless steel, you can touch the outside and no burning of little hands! It stays warm for hours! Seriously.

I got a 12 cup stainless steel Cuisinart. I have had it for 2 years and it's awesome. I also bought the cuisinart coffee grinder that is in stainless steel and sits beside it.
However, you can get a cuisinart that has a built in coffee grinder in it...
Honestly I don't work for Cuisinart! Just a happy customer!
